The purpose of the Act is to implement the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Paris Agreement and the Kyoto Protocol in Saint Lucia.

The Act bans the importation, manufacturing, sale, use or distribution of styrofoam and plastic food service containers detailed in the Schedule (cup, plate, tray, hinged take-away container, bowl, disposable beverage cup lid, bowl lid, fork, spoon, knife, straw, and egg carton).

This Act provides for the grant by the State of legal aid and advice to persons of insufficient means in civil and criminal cases in Saint Lucia.

The Act provides for the mitigation of, preparedness for, response to and recovery from emergencies and disasters in Saint Lucia.
