Litter Act (No. 15 of 1991)

The Act primarily defines various offenses related to littering, including the disposal of litter in public places and private properties without consent, the break of bottles or glass in public places, and the disposal of litter from motor vehicle, trailer, ship or boat.

Alternative measures (articles 13.1 and 14)

The Court may, in addition to imposing a penalty, order the offender to clean up and remove the litter deposited in the public place within a specified period. Furthermore, and in addition to imposing a penalty, the Court may order the offender to pay by way of compensation to the public authority to cover the cost of the removal of litter.

Local authorities are empowered to enforce litter removal and can enter premises to address litter issues.
