Convención sobre la conservación de las Especies Migratorias de Animales Silvestres

La convención sobre la Conservación de las Especies Migratorias de Animales Silvestres (CMS),  en vigor desde 1983, es la única convención global especializada en la conservación de las especies migratorias, sus hábitats y sus rutas de migración. La CMS establece obligaciones para todos los Estados miembros de la Convención y promueve la acción concertada entre los Estados del área de distribución de muchas de las especies migratorias en peligro de extinción, animando a dichos Estados a crear ulteriores acuerdos globales o regionales. De este modo, la CMS actúa como una convención marco.

Public information (articles V.5 and IX.4)

Where appropriate and feasible, all global and regional Agreements established under the Convention should provide for making the general public aware of the contents and aims of said Agreements.

The functions of the Secretariat shall include: obtaining from any appropriate source reports and other information which will further the objectives and implementation of the Convention and to arranging for the appropriate dissemination of such information; maintaining and publishing a list of range States of all migratory species included in Appendices I and II; promoting, under the direction of the Conference of the Parties, the conclusion of Agreemenst; and providing, for the general public, information concerning this Convention and its objectives.
