This Act provides for the organisation of State actions for the mitigation of, preparedness for, response to and recovery from disasters in Belize. It includes requirements for public inquiries in the decision-making process of plans, programmes and policies.

These regulations establish the processes involved in the preparation and evaluation of environmental impact assessments, including the requirements on public participation and public hearings.

This Act establishes a comprehensive legal and institutional framework for environmental protection in Belize.

The Constitution of Belize ensures access to information and participation within the framework of the freedoms of expression, peaceful assembly and association. It also provides constitutional guarantees in case the aforementioned rights are infringed.
