Freedom of Information Act (No. 27 of 2003)

The Freedom of Information Act aims to extend the right of members of the public to access information in the possession of public authorities in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Right to access information (Section 10)

Every person shall have a right of access to an official document other than an exempt document.

“Public authority” includes: parliament, the cabinet, a Ministry, a local authority, a public statutory corporation or body, an embassy, any other body designated by the Minister.

Not later than 30 days on which the request is duly made.

Active transparency (Part II)

A public authority shall, cause to be published in the Gazette: a statement setting out the particulars of the organization and functions of the public authority, indicating the decision-making powers and other powers affecting members of the public; a statement of categories of documents that are maintained in the possession of the public authority; a statement of the procedure to be followed by a person when a request for access is made; among others.

Any person aggrieved by a decision of a public authority under this Act may apply to the High Court for judicial review of the decision.
