The object of the Access to Information Act is setting a practical regime of the right to information for persons, in order to secure the access to information under the control of public authorities and promote transparency and accountability.
This Act provides for the management, conservation, protection and improvement of the environment, the prevention or control of pollution, the assessment of the impact of economic development on the environment, the sustainable use of natural resources and other related matters in Guyana.
The Constitution of Guyana recognizes the right of every person to an environment that is not harmful to his or her health or well-being and the duty of every citizen to participate in activities designed to improve the environment and protect the health of the nation.
