Second meeting of the signatory countries will take place on 9 and 10 December under the auspices of Antigua and Barbuda
|

The second meeting of the signatory countries to the Escazú Agreement will take place on 9 and 10 December 2020, under the auspices of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda. Discussion on the topics to be addressed at the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties will be resumed.

The day before the meeting, 8 December, an in person workshop for Antigua and Barbuda and the virtual event “Youth for Escazú” will take place.

IMPORTANT: The programme follows Antigua and Barbuda time (GMT-4). A clock converts the times to the time zone of each user.

UN Experts Hail Landmark Environmental Treaty in Latin America and the Caribbean
|
|
|
UN human rights experts welcomed the impending entry into force of the Escazú Agreement, lauding it as a ground-breaking pact to fight pollution and secure a healthy environment.
Furthermore, they urged those countries who have yet to ratify or adhere, to join regional efforts and demonstrate best practice for a more just and sustainable region.

Forum Discussed Challenges Faced by Environmental Defenders in South America
|
|
|
More than 60 human rights and environmental defenders gathered on 4 and 5 November at the Forum of Environmental Defenders in South America organized by OHCHR, ECLAC and UNEP with the support of CEJIL, PI and ILC.
The online event offered a platform to analyze environmental protection in the region and exchange experiences, good practices and recommendations to defend the environment safely.
The meeting was attended by environmental defenders and representatives of civil society from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay as well as featured defenders from Colombia, Honduras and Guatemala, among others
