Disaster Management Act (No. 13 of 2002)

The acts provides for the effective organisation of the preparedness, management, mitigation of, response to and recovery from emergencies and disasters natural and man-made in Antigua and Barbuda.

Active transparency (Section 8(2))

The National Disaster Preparedness Response Plan shall include procedures for informing the public in Antigua and Barbuda and elsewhere of the existence of a threatened disaster alert or the existence of a disaster emergency as well as of the state of affairs during a threatened disaster alert or in the event or the aftermath of a disaster emergency.

A public consultation may be held before approving the draft Order delimiting a specially vulnerable area and a draft special area precautionary plan.

Environmental education (Section 4 (2))

The Director of Disaster Preparedness shall conduct programmes of public information and education on the mitigation of, preparedness for, response to and recovery from emergencies and disasters.
